The Ferryman is generally unflappable, but the group's findings seem to catch them off-guard. They don't want to take any of the documents, but seem sort of wistfully sad about them.
They're surprised, they explain, not that the room exists, but that it was still discoverable in the network of tunnels. It's been some time since they last spent time there, you see. This is the information they volunteer about it:
They used to live much more closely with the souls they were shepherding, until their duties demanded that they hold their vigil close to The River.
Previous groups of souls stayed in The Cavern for much, much longer than this group has.
The documents appear as gibberish to the group because "you aren't connected to them". The Ferryman declines to translate anything.
The other symbols refer to "others" that also stayed in close proximity to the settlement of souls. The Ferryman suggests that if the group couldn't find their rooms, these "others" have probably moved on.
The group is free to take whatever they like from the room.
For Reasons, anything taken from The Ferryman's room will not be lost after The Crossing.
